Why Travel?

“Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness.”

– Mark Twain

“There are no foreign lands. It is the traveler only who is foreign.”

– Robert Louis Stevenson

Yes, I did a Google search for “travel quotes,” and these two great quotes came up. They sum up so nicely what I love about travelling. Being an introvert, I have a tendency to get wrapped up inside myself. Travel forces me to see things from other perspectives, and consider my way of doing things is not the only way of doing things. That said, I have seen people walk into other countries and be astounded people do things so “stupidly,” so I’d have to disagree with the Mark Twain quote. Travel should be fatal to prejudice, bigotry and narrow-mindedness, but sadly some people are immune even to the power of travel. Oh well.

Here’s a great quote from Augustine, to finish things up before I head out (I actually leave on Wednesday):

“The world is a book and those who do not travel read only one page.”

– St. Augustine
